Blessing Doorways
by Shonnie Scarola

Used by permission from "Christian Customs, Folklore, Legends and Feast Days of the Christmas Season"
In earlier times, the twelve holy nights between Christmas and Epiphany were called "Smoke Nights" because the
people went through their houses and barns burning incense, blessing their homesteads.

Sage and other incense such as frankensense and myrhh have been used since the time of Moses to bless
and cleanse a home or synagogue or church for centuries.  First Century Christians have well known the
attributes of incense to clenase and drive out evil spirits.

In the Middle Ages, it was customary to bless homes with newly blessed Epiphany water. Holy water was sprinkled
in each room. The father would lead the procession with a shovel of charcoal on which he burned incense, the oldest
son had a bowl of holy water. The rest of the family followed along saying the rosary and singing hymns,
while the father and oldest son were incensing and blessing the house, the youngest child carried a plate of chalk.

The chalk had been blessed with a special blessing after morning Mass. The father took the blessed chalk and wrote
over every room that led from the house into the open: AD 19+C+M+B+98 which stands for "Amno Domini 1955 --
Caspar, Melchior, Balthasar" and means "the three Holy Kings, Caspar, Melchior, Balthasar, in the year of Our Lord,
1998" or whatever the year may be, are protecting this house against all evil spirits.

This tradition of blessing the doorways (with blessed chalk) symbolizes the family's commitment to welcome Christ into
their homes on a daily basis throughout the year.

A Simple Method of Blessing
By Joey Korn

In my research over the past thirteen years, I find that the most powerful way to keep the
energies around you, in your home or office, balanced and beneficial is to keep your own
energies balanced and beneficial. This includes the Earth energies associated with geopathic
stress. I’ve devised a very simple blessing formula to help you do that. You can also use it to
bless others.
If you will include these five components to a blessing, and do it often, you or whoever you
bless will stay balanced as well as the energies around you:
1. Address the Divine
2. Ask to be blessed or charged with energy
3. Make a statement of what you want to accomplish
4. Express gratitude
5. Close the blessing

Each component is important.

So here's a simple blessing:
Dear God (or however you address the Divine)
Please bless me (or someone else) with energy
To bring healing and balance to my/his/her complete being
Especially to help me/him/her (you could state something you want to accomplish here)
Thank you
Amen

Feel free to share this with others.
