Depression and Mental Issues
Amino Acids that are essential and other supplemental support

DL-PHENYLALANINE
DL-Phenylalanine is a 600 mg capsule. I can make the comment here once and for all: Amino acids come in several grades, all the way from amino acids made from pigs hoof to the highest quality free-forms. Biotics Research is using only the highest quality amino acids in all of their products. They are not using low quality, inexpensive amino acids in their products and if you don't think this is happening in the industry you are wrong.
With DL-Phenylalanine, we have found it to be useful with chronic or acute pain and depression. For acute pain, use it at one capsule every two hours. For chronic pain or depression, use two capsules, three times a day.

Pharmaceutical Grade TYROSINE
Often called the stress amino acid. Precursor to catecholamines ® epinephrine ® norepinephrine
® dopamine ® dopa. Helps support a positive mood. Assists in normal brain function and
supplier of neurotransmitters. Helps support normal blood pressure. Precursor of thyroid
hormones. Involved in tissue pigmentation.Contains no binders, coatings, or colorings.
Free of the most common allergens such as corn, soy, wheat, yeast, rice, lactose, milk, citrus, or
eggs.

Note: Tyrosine should not be taken with MAO and tricyclic antidepressants, or when a
cancerous melanoma is present or history of cancerous melanoma.
Contents: Vitamin C (as Ascorbyl Palmitate) 8 mg, Tyrosine 850 mg, Gelatin Capsules.

Glutamine, Super – 120 g powder Glutamine is the third most abundant amino acid in the blood
and brain. It is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that acts as a precursor for GABA, the anti-anxiety
amino acid. Glutamine crosses the blood-brain barrier where it helps increase energy and mental
alertness. It helps the brain dispose of waste ammonia, a protein breakdown byproduct.
Glutamine’s most important function is strengthening the immune system due to its
effects on increasing white blood cells. It also aids other immune cells in killing bacteria, healing
wounds and maintaining and supporting Glutathione, an important antioxidant. The main
nutrient needed for intestinal repair is glutamine, which can work with Leaky-Gut syndrome. It is a
tasteless powder that can help curb sugar and alcohol cravings. Children born with a Glutamine
deficiency are more prone to alcoholism later in life. Glutamine also is one of the most potent
Growth Hormone stimulators. In Dr. Richard Klatz’s book, Grow Young with HGH, Dr.
Giampapa is quoted reporting that two grams of glutamine are more potent than one gram of
Arginine, Ornithine and Lysine combined.

GABA – 750 mg, 60 Caps Dr. Candace Pert,
Pharmacologist, discovered the GABA receptor sites throughout the brain and body. Nicknamed
“The Anti-Anxiety Amino Acid,” this is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that the brain uses to
stop the endless cycle of stress, which is so common in today’s world. While there is no such
thing as a tranquilizer deficiency, most people who have abused refined carbohydrates
(especially alcohol and sugar) as well as those who have been chronically emotionally or
mentally fatigued are greatly lacking in this nutrient. GABA can be of great help in those who
can’t get to sleep because of an overly stimulated mind. Many allopathic anti-depressants have the
effect on the human body of substituting depression for irritability, which is why some
people are given prescriptions for tranquilizers along with anti-depressants. This nutrient may
greatly help. Remember that GABA requires BComplex Vitamins for its proper assimilation.
Contents: 750 mg, Glycine (25 mg), Gelatin Capsule.

B12 Methylcobalamin for brain function and depression, confusion, mental instability
alzheimers benefit too.

Dosage:
1000mcg 100 lozenges give two to three to start to see if  that smaller dosage will do the trick

Dosage:
50 mg per day.

Folic Acid:
Rationale:
Dosage:
400 mcg per day.

Alternatives:

Vitamin B1:
Rationale:
In rats, vitamin B1 supplementation has been found to protect neurons in the brain against the oxidative damage
Dosage:
100 - 500 mg per day.

Vitamin B3:
Rationale:
Dosage:
500 mg per day (of the nicotinic acid form of vitamin B3).

Trimethylglycine:
(TMG)
Rationale:
Trimethylglycine inhibits the ability of alcohol to cause fatty liver
Dosage:
2,000 - 4,000 mg per day.

Carnitine:
Rationale:
Carnitine
Dosage:
1,000 - 2,000 mg per day.

Cysteine:
Rationale:
Cysteine helps to protect the liver and the brain damage. The N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) form of cysteine has been demonstrated in a recent study to significantly reduce  free radicals by increasing the body’s levels of one of its natural antioxidants, glutathione.
Dosage:
1,000 - 3,000 mg per day (using L-cysteine).
1,000 - 2,000 mg per day (using the N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) form of cysteine).
When taking cysteine or NAC it is recommended that you also take three times as much vitamin C (i.e. 1,800 - 5,400 mg) at the same time in order to prevent the degradation of cysteine or NAC within the body.

Lecithin:
Rationale:
The phosphatidylcholine content of lecithin inhibits the ability of alcohol to cause gastric ulcers, liver damage, pancreas damage and pancreatitis.  Excellent for brain function
Dosage:
10,000 - 25,000 mg per day (10 - 25 grams per day).

Korean Ginseng:
Rationale:
Korean ginseng protects the liver from alcohol damage by accelerating the clearance of alcohol from the blood. Compounds in Korean ginseng named ginsenosides help to prevent the alcohol-induced destruction of neurons in a region of the brain known as the cerebellum. The cerebellum helps to control the sense of balance and coordination.
Dosage:
The short-term (up to three months) dosage for unstandardised Korean ginseng is 1,000 - 2,000 mg per day or 300 - 400 mg per day for Korean ginseng products that have been standardized in terms of their ginsenosides content.
If Korean ginseng is used for periods of more than three months continuously the daily dosage (for unstandardised Korean ginseng) is reduced to approximately 500 - 1,000 mg per day or 100 - 200 mg per day if using standardized Korean ginseng.

Siberian Ginseng:
Rationale:
In one study, Russian scientists secretly added Siberian ginseng to vodka being drunk by thousands of drinkers. After eight months of drinking vodka “spiked” with Siberian ginseng alcohol consumption declined and less alcohol-induced damage was observed. Drinkers receiving Siberian ginseng experienced fewer illnesses and their work productivity increased.
Dosage:
The most commonly recommended therapeutic dosage for Siberian ginseng (20:1 concentration, containing at least 1% Eleutheroside E) is 300 mg - 600 mg per day.
For un-concentrated (i.e. 1:1) Siberian ginseng, this would equate to 6,000 - 12,000 mg per day.
The usual therapeutic dosage of 1:5 tincture of Siberian ginseng is 30 - 60 ml per day (taken as three divided doses of 10 - 20 ml each).
The usual therapeutic dosage of 1:1 fluidextract of Siberian ginseng is 6 - 12 ml per day (taken as three divided doses of 2 - 4 ml each).

RNA:
(Ribonucleic Acid)
Rationale:
Dr. Benjamin Frank (an acknowledged expert on the use of supplemental RNA) reported his experiences with several cases of alcoholism treated with RNA therapy. RNA treatment resulted in improved strength, improved mood, improved facial skin color, improved mental clarity and a reduction in tremors in alcoholics.
Dosage:
500 – 2,000 mg per day.
